Malaria

Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by parasitic called Plasmodium. It is transmitted via the bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito, which introduces the organisms from its saliva into a person's circulatory system. People with malaria often experience fever, chills, flu-like illness and in severe cases can progress to coma or death. Key interventions to control malaria include: prompt and effective treatment with artemisinin-based combination therapies; use of insecticidal nets by people at risk; and indoor residual spraying with insecticide to control the vector mosquitoes.
